Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in life.

1980 to 2018...

My goodness… The state of affairs of our amazing country, is frankly sad.  It breaks my heart. Yet, some who came before us made declarations that have proven to be true, “those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” George Santayana.

Why do I say that? Simple, travel back with me to April 1980, (Insert the flashback music sequence) Jimmy Carter was president of the United States and Fidel Castro was the ambitious, hideous, violent dictator in nearby Cuba.  When some Cuban people, fed up with their government, invaded the Peruvian embassy seeking asylum; We, the US, and our innate inability to keep our mouths shut declare, and I’m of course paraphrasing, Hey Cuba, you guys are jerks for not letting people seek asylum. And then, Cuba said, oh yeah, hold my beer.  And over 125,000 Cubans were sent to the United States.

Let that sink in… 125,000 Cubans.

Of those… Castro stuck out his middle finger and also released violent criminals and ca-razy people.  Yep, you guessed it and sent their butts to America.  Good times.

Point is, Mr. Carter (and yes, I intend for you to read that in a Welcome Back Carter, sort-of-a-way) was like, Yo, Fidel we’re not gonna let these people in and Fidel was like, yeah you are, and then Carter was like, ok.

125,000 Cubans!!! That’s a lot of plantains and congris and pastelitos.

That debacle was a hot freaking mess.  The waves and waves of humans started in April and went through October when, and this one I am quoting, “a mutual agreement was reached by the two governments” … Huh.  What does that mean? The reason I ask is because unless the current POTUS is looking for a similar Mariel (minus the boats) if I were him, I’d be looking at what was negotiated and go from there.

Just saying.  I cannot be the first person to bring this up.

Any whoooo… to the rest of us, the US survived Mariel.  We did.  Sure, it kicked our ass there for a while, and Carter would be written into the History books as a pansy, but we survived. Now, it didn’t look good, these marielitos were held in makeshift prisons, if you will, while they were processed.  There’s no 2 ways about it.    We look at the mob that’s headed this way from Central America and people… get ready… the optics are gonna suck.  You’ll be able to watch the opening sequence of Scarface and make a direct comparison (watch, I’m gonna be right about this) to what we’ll be seeing in real time: But how else is a country going to process a crap load of people? For real.

Common sense ain’t too common anymore, but we are a nation governed by laws and order. THANK GOD! Because if not… we’re straight up living 24/7 in a Purge movie.  No thank you!

Caballero, there is no way the U.S. gets out of this without a little poop on our faces.  And WE are the U.S.  WE gotta cut the crap, there’s no us and them within our nation… nope, WE are the U.S. and WE have 1 president.  Just like in 1980 we had 1 president.  Carter was a pansy in his day, and Trump is a rough-around-the edges guapito, we don’t have to like him, we just got to play the hand we’re dealt. BTW, ask the people living in Miami in 1980 how it felt to be overwhelmed by 125,000 Cubans.  Gente… it got loud, FAST.

We are going to survive this but get ready, because it’s not going to be pretty.  Unless… “a mutual agreement was reached by the two governments” So el guapito… needs to put his negotiation pants on, and get to work!
